Founded by artists Nathalie Nguyen and Dominic Lopez in 2018, Happy99 has garnered attention for its virtual designs that live as 3D creations on digital avatars. Taking a stance against fast fashion and overproduction, Happy99 proposes a unique retail experience whereby consumers have the option to purchase the physical garments or their computerized concepts. Happy99’s IRL ready-to-wear collection features logo-printed cotton hoodies and snug knit beanies. Technical cargo pants come adorned with funky swirl patterns while stretchy cycling tops boast graphics reminiscent of a Y2K desktop background. Guided by an experimental yet nostalgic spirit, Happy99’s off-kilter designs propose a new direction for fashion in the twenty-first century.
